An Unstable World
Mark Estepp - 9/8/2024
James 1:5-8
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
An Unstable World
An unstable world needs a stable church.
In an unstable world, you can be a stable exception.
In an unstable world, you must overcome double-mindedness.
Double-mindedness is revealed through doubt, decision/indecision, and drift.
Single-mindedness trusts God and God’s character.
Single-mindedness is focused on becoming one thing over time. (More like Jesus)
When you lack, where do you look?
Matthew 7:7
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
If you ask God, how do you ask?
When you receive, what do you do?
In an unstable world, you need a stable forecast.
Matthew 7:24-27
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
